An electric kettle is a kitchen appliance usually used for boiling water, for making tea or some other beverages, which requires hot water. Based on historical location and culture, the name ‘kettle’ has many other meanings.
Nowadays, due to technological revolution, all kitchen and home appliances have become electrified including a kettle. Let us discuss electric kettles in detail.
An electric kettle is quite similar to tea kettle, which has a heating element that helps the water in getting boiled, but the electric kettle boils water very quickly than remaining types of standard tea kettles.
Structure of the electric kettle is not very complicated unlike the pattern of a traditional stove top kettle. Body of the kettle is made up of special materials, which assist in improving the heating efficiency. Most of the electric kettles have stainless steel components along with an enamel coating. The handle is fixed on top of the body to provide easy grip. Whenever the water is boiled to sufficient level, a sound will come due to steam, and one can easily know that water is boiled up.
In almost all parts of United Kingdom and Europe, the electric kettle is a very common kitchen appliance. During last two decades, the electric kettle became very popular around the globe.
History of Electric Kettles
Considering some investigations, the kettle was invented between 3500 and 2000 B.C.E in Mesopotamia. It was made of bronze material with an attractive spout. However, it doesn’t have any similarity to kettles invented before 200 years.
First Electric Kettle
In 1891, Carpenter Electric Company of Chicago launched electric kettle for the first time. At that time, this device had a heating element at the bottom of kettle. In the same year, R.E.B. Crompton of Crompton and Company, a British Inventor, designed a heat radiator theory for the electric kettle.
First Automatic Kettle
In 1950, William Russell and Peter Hobbs invented the first automatic kettle in United Kingdom.
What Is the Working Principle for Electric Kettle?
As the high end appliance as the buzzword these days, various kinds of electric kettles are being developed by a number of manufacturers with unique features.
Coming to the working of an electric kettle, an electric heating element is located at the bottom of the kettle. Above the heating element, a removable canister is installed to hold water, and all the controls are mounted on the kettle. It has a thermostat and on/off switch; the thermostat controls the heat of kettle.
After pouring water into the kettle, plug in the kettle to pass the electricity. After plugging it in, the heating element inside the kettle gets heated, which in turn boils the water.
